This one-day course will provide an overview of stammering for Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs), SLT students, SLTs returning to practice, teachers, teaching assistants, doctors and any other professionals who may have children and young people who stammer in their care.

This training course will aim to increase participants’ understanding of the issues involved in working with secondary school students who stammer, their confidence in assessing overt and covert aspects of stammering, and their skills in integrating speech management, communication skills and psychological approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in packages of care which reflect individual need. The course will present work which can be adapted for individual or group therapy for young people aged 15 -18 years.

This study day has emerged out of an interest in learning more, and in response to requests from SLTs, about how to support children who stammer (CWS) who also are Autistic.

This training course provides an introduction to CBT and its application to work with children and adults who stammer, and other clients with communication difficulties which impact on their psychological wellbeing.

This three day workshop will aim to increase speech and language therapists’ knowledge and skills in assessing and treating primary school-aged children. The course will also aim to develop participants’ confidence in the management of this age group. It will be supported by video, discussion, skills practice and clinical resources that will be emailed to participants in advance of the course. This course is appropriate for therapists working with children from 8 to 14 years old.

This one-day course will provide an introduction to Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and how it might be used with clients in speech and language therapy and education settings. Specific examples will involve clients who stutter but the approach is applicable to all of us.
