Stammering and Autism – one day workshop

This study day is running for the third time due to requests from SLTs about how to support children who stammer (CWS) who are autistic. The day will provide an overview of core facts and research related to the intersectionality between Autism and Stammering. The presenters will showcase examples of practice and facilitate discussion about how best to adapt our clinical work for children under 7 (e.g. Palin PCI) and for children aged 8-14 (e.g. Family Communication Skills) who stammer and are autistic.

One day introduction for working with children who stammer

This one day workshop is particularly suited to newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs), SLTs who have an emerging interest in stammering and SLT students, who would like to find out more about current practice and research. Other professionals (e.g. Educational Psychologists, teachers, GPs, Health Visitors etc) may also find the course a useful way of increasing their knowledge about how to identify stammering, when to refer and how to help.

This one-day course will provide an introduction to Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and how it might be used with clients in speech and language therapy and education settings. Specific examples will involve clients who stutter but the approach is applicable to all of us.
