Supporting 8 to 14s who stammer

This online three day  training course will aim to increase speech and language therapists’ knowledge and skills in assessing and supporting primary school-aged children. The course will also aim to develop participants’ confidence in working with this age group. It will be supported by video, discussion, skills practice and clinical resources (including 2 webinars) that will be emailed to participants in advance of the course. This course is appropriate for therapists working with children from 8 to 14 years old.

This study day is running for the seventh time due to requests from SLTs about how to support children who stammer (CWS) who are autistic. The day will provide an overview of core facts and research related to the intersectionality between Autism and Stammering.

Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with children and young people who stammer 

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) aims to help people to live better by increasing how flexibly they respond to difficulty. This one day workshop will explore ways in which ACT can be applied to working with children and young people who stammer.

Working with 15-18’s via Zoom

This online training course will aim to increase participants’ understanding of the issues involved in working with secondary school students who stammer, their confidence in assessing overt and covert aspects of stammering, and their skills in integrating speech management, communication skills and psychological approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in packages of care which reflect individual need. The course will present work which can be adapted for individual or group therapy for teenagers aged 15 -18 years.

This online one-day course will provide an introduction to Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and how it might be used with clients in speech and language therapy, health and education settings. Specific examples will involve clients who stutter but the approach is applicable to all of us.
